Scuba Diving Holidays In Barbados
If you're looking for warm seas and year-round sunshine, travel
to Barbados for some excellent diving featuring a myriad of reef fish, turtles and sponges.
Country Description
Barbados is unique due to the fact that it is made up
of two landmasses that have merged together over the
years. It is also remarkably young, clocking in at only
one million years old, however it has been inhabited
since around 1625BC.
Diving Description
The Island is ideal for year round diving, however the
best time to go is during the summer months. Diving the
reefs off Barbados promises healthy coral, sponges and
marine life all in waters, which remain a constant temperature
of 27 degrees C.
There are numerous kinds of reef here. The barrier reefs
can be found 2-4km from the shore. They feature thousands
of reef fish that have inhabited the huge coral heads.
Naturally these smaller fish attract larger fish looking
for food too. Hawksbill turtles are also regular visitors.
Carlisle Bay
The site of a number of wrecks, including the Berwyn, Eilon,
C-Trek and Fox, where frogfish, eels, seahorses and tropical
fish abound. An idea site for beginners.
The SS Stavronikita
A 111-metre Greek freighter, sunk deliberately to a depth
of 36m (with the stern lying at 30m and the bow at 21m)
to form an artificial reef.
