Scuba Diving Holidays In Curacao

Curacao boasts a designated marine park, which takes up one third of its southern waters. Here you can enjoy shallow reef diving, or wall diving on the more steeply shelved sections of reef.

Country Description

The largest island of the Dutch Antilles, it has 38 beaches, although none promise much in the way of sand. The most southerly island in the Caribbean it is protected from wet weather by the Windward and Leeward Islands chains. To the east is the smaller uninhabited island of Klein Curcao, which promises little more than a lighthouse! The island of Curacao itself is geared up for tourists, promising good facilities.

Diving Description

Spectacular! Caraao promises excellent reef diving where turtles and pelagic species abound. The reef itself is well preserved all around the island and there is a wealth of shipwrecks to explore thanks to the rocky shoreline. Most of the diving here takes place off the Leeward shore because it is protected form the trade winds. There are over 100 listed sites, many of which are within the designated marine park, which takes up a third of the southern waters.

The island's waters feature an abundance of life including large shoals of snapper, French and grey angelfish, spotted morays, grouper, jacks and turtles. The dive itself is made up of a shallow reef slope, which stretches out about 100 meters from the shore before it drops pretty sharply forming coral covered walls.

Dive Sites

SS Orange Nassau and the Superior Producer SA wrecks.

Two wrecks which are covered in life, promising numerous species.

Klein Carcao

One o0f the best areas to dive, the reef around this small island promises turtles and numerous pelagic species as well as a number of shipwrecks. Many of these have been broken up so only the frame of the vessel is still in view. In the small lagoon you can also find a collection of anchors and chains - some of which came from shipwrecks, others purposefully dropped.
