Madagascar is located 250 miles off the south east coast of Africa. The island can be divided into three main parts: the East Coast, a narrow coastal strip abutting the steep slopes of the North-South mountain range, home of the rain forest; the Central Highlands, decorated with immense rice fields; and the West Coast, home of the baobabs and thorny forest. Coral reefs fringe a portion of the coast. Most plants and animals found in Madagascar exist only there. Thirteen million Malagasy inhabit Madagascar. They have a dual Indonesian and African origin. The most ancient road is not yet 100 years old and tourism is a very young industry. Many conveniences available and expected in heavily travelled places like Greece or Japan simply do not exist. Diving Description
With Madagascar an almost undiscovered gem, the reefs of have not suffered the damage from over diving and pollution that other Indian Ocean reefs have, that and it's relative obscurity ensures some pristine dive sites with an extensive range of marine life.
Dive Sites
Nosy Tanikely
An ideal beginners or refresher site maximum depth is 20m the wide variety of coral attracts parrot fish clown fish and angel fish as well as a wealth of others, turtles are also a common site here.
The Four Brothers
These are a group of four large rocks, with underwater cliffs which are not especially deep therefore good for beginners ranging in depth from about 4-20 metres to the bottom. You can see turtles, blue spotted ray, lobsters, unicorn fish, scorpion fish and crocodile fish.
The Organ
So called as it has many ridges in the rock, which resemble the pipes of an organ. Again there is a cliff face and the bottom is shallow. There is usually a current that makes it into a drift dive
