Without a mask, it would basically be impossible to scuba dive. The purpose of a mask is to create an air space between your eyes and the water to allow you to see. All masks need to cover your nose because when you descend you need to equalise air space in your mask to stop it from squeezing your face. |
The main features of a mask are tempered glass is very important as it stops any breakages which could cause hazardous shards of glass. A comfortable fitting skirt is essential as it stops any leaks from the edges. The nosepiece should be easily accessible to allow equalisation. A wide field of vision in a low volume mask is desirable as your field of vision is increased and it is easier to clear because of the lowered amount of air |
