A rebreather is a self contained breathing apparatus for use underwater, which reuses part of each breath. There are two primary classes of rebreathers, semi closed and fully closed. Rebreathers are able to reuse the oxygen left in each exhaled breath while at the same time removing carbon dioxide chemically. As a result diving times can be greatly extended with relatively small tanks. As rebreathers produce little or no bubbles, an added benefit is a relatively quiet dive. |
