Scuba Diving Holidays In Jordan |
Discover the wonders of the Red and Dead Seas in the land of the rose red city.
Country Description
Thanks to a lack of investment Jordan has been largely left behind by the other Red Sea destinations. However with the development of more hotels and resorts this is slowly changing and soon Jordan will be one of the biggest attractions for the Red Sea dive tourism industry. Jordan only enjoys a relatively small 17-mile stretch of the Red Sea, which is directly opposite Eilat. However Jordan and Israel were enemies until a peace treaty was signed, which meant at one time a boat that accidentally strayed into their neighbours' waters would be met with a gun boat. These days the welcome is warmer. Among the places to visit in Jordan are the Lost City of Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea.

Diving Description
Jordan has long had strict protection laws over its undersea resources, and as such it has some of the finest reef systems in the Gulf of Aquba. As the waters are located in the lower temperature of the north the corals tend to be of the soft variety, however hard coral does grow in huge bommies. Water conditions are good and calm although the wind in both winter and summer can whip up the seas a little.

Originally a Lebanese cargo ship, the Cedar Pride was gutted by fire and was left in Aqaba Harbour to rot. Following a request to King Hussein the ship was sunk as a tourist attraction in 1986. She is tilted over on her keel in no more than 100 meters from shore.
Other info
Much of the diving is done offshore although at least one dive centre offers boat diving. There are a number of excellent diver centres, which provide everything divers of all levels need. Several UK agents also offer full package trips
