Country Description
The world's second largest archipelago consisting of 7,107 islands of varying sizes, The Philippines separate the Celebes Sea and South China Sea from the Pacific Ocean. The Islands are divided into four groups: Luzon, Palawan, Mindanea and the Visayas. These four groups are subsequently divided into fourteen regions. Only 2,000 islands are populated with at least 2,500 of the others without names!

Diving Description
The Philippines doesn't have the greatest ecological record. Over the years they have employed extreme fishing methods such as cyanide poisoning and dynamite-fishing which has had an obvious effect on both the marine life and coral. More recently, however, moves have been made to re-educate the fisherman into the value of protecting life under the sea. This has resulted in reefs that are almost back to their former glories. And the fish numbers are on the up too with many species swimming these waters. So the Philippines are now a top dive destination.
The dive industry here is well run and there is no shortage of great and diverse dive destinations to choose from.

Coron
Renowned for its eight World War 2 wrecks, lakes and caves. The wrecks are from a Japanese supply fleet; all lie in 20-40m of water and measure between 152 and 213 metres long.
The Sulu Sea
A very exciting dive thanks to its walls, blue water and offshore reefs. Large palegics, sharks and rays swim in the waters and huge coral and sponge formations dominate the seascape.
The Island of Malapacua
A lesser-known destination with an excellent wall that promises early morning sightings of thresher sharks and also regular encounters with devil and manta rays.
The Tabbatuha Reefs in the Sulu Sea
This is the largest coral atoll in the Sulu Sea. It is home to over 400 species of coral, 2,000 species of fish and has been awarded world heritage status.
